IU earns 1st spring victory

The IU men’s soccer team finally got its first win of the spring season this past weekend. By using the depth of its bench, the Hoosiers overpowered the Louisville Cardinals for a 1-0 exhibition win Friday.

AUGUSTA, Ga. – A strange week at the Masters saved the biggest surprises for Sunday – unheralded Zach Johnson won the green jacket, and he had to beat Tiger Woods to get it. Johnson pulled away from Woods and the rest of the pack with three birdies in a crucial four-hole stretch along the back nine of Augusta National, closing with a 69 for a two-shot victory and only the second of his career.

GRE format change, scheduled for 2007, is canceled

The Educational Testing Service announced the cancellation of plans to launch a revised version of the Graduate Record Examinations because of concerns over test-taker access. The test was supposed to be released in an Internet-based format in September 2007, but will instead remain in its current format.

Last week Indiana lawmakers made an excellent decision. People worried about their civil union statuses and the application of equal protection in Indiana, can breathe again as Senate Joint Resolution 7 was killed in a statehouse committee on April 3.

Live From Bloomington bands present Club Night for charity

Charity is often considered to be a rewarding experience, but who knew that someone could see 19 bands perform just for donating two canned goods and $3? The Union Board’s 21st annual Club Night, part of Live From Bloomington’s campaign to support local bands and the Hoosier Hills Food Bank, featured 19 bands at Max’s Place, Blue Bird, Uncle Festers and Jake’s on Thursday. A donation of $5 or a combination of $3 and two canned goods got patrons into all participating venues for the night.

Tavis Smiley to be commencement speaker

After almost a year of deliberation and negotiation, IU President Adam Herbert announced Thursday that IU alumnus and media personality Tavis Smiley will present the commencement address during graduation ceremonies May 5.
