Commencement speaker choice lacks student voice

President Michael McRobbie made a key change this year as to how commencement speakers are chosen, designating the duty to honorary degree recipients and eliminating student input from the selection process, a University spokesman said Thursday.

IU takes the field in annual intra-squad Spring Game

The Spring Game, which is slated for 2 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Stadium, will mark the end of the offseason practice schedule for the Hoosiers. The IU men’s basketball team will sign autographs at the event from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Golf wraps up regular season in Lafayette

After a rough 14th-place finish, the No. 6 IU men’s golf team responded with a tournament victory on its home course. Now, the Hoosiers head to rival Purdue for the Boilermaker Invitational, but they are wishing they could flash to the future.

IU faces Tulsa on Saturday

IU will face Tulsa at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the IU Softball Field. Tulsa comes into Saturday sitting near the top of the Conference USA standings as its second-winningest team. The Hoosiers are also likely to face junior pitcher Jackie Lawrence, who was the Conference USA Co-Pitcher of the Week last week.

Hoosier fans can expect different team next year

The ragtag group that made up the 2008-2009 team – a squad composed of players with virtually no Division I experience or any familiarity with one another – will have an influx of new players to go along with the remaining roster.

AIDS Walk to promote awareness

In an effort to bring awareness  of HIV and AIDS back to campus and the community, the IU chapter of the Student Global AIDS Campaign will be host to its fifth AIDS Walk at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Teter Quad south courtyard.

Mr and Ms Asia pageant to showcase cultural diversity

Sophomore Neerali Shah has never competed in a pageant. Her partner, Zain Jafri, has never performed on stage. Tonight, Shah and Jafri will represent the Indian Student Association and the Pakistani Student Association in the Mr. and Miss Asia Pageant.

Williams departure from IU not that surprising

Listen. Players transfer. It’s nothing really underhanded or wrong; guys just realize that what was once a good fit for them now runs a little bit too tight. It’s one of the most common occurrences in college sports, sometimes more so than winning itself.

Hoosiers look to continue conference success

The Hoosiers (16-17) are currently tied for first place in the Big Ten and look to continue their conference reign when they face Penn State at 3 p.m. Friday at Sembower Field. Freshman Blake Monar will pitch game 1, followed by juniors Eric Arnett and Matt Bashore on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

A Bloomington man was arrested Tuesday afternoon for the February battery of an 85-year-old woman he knew through the woman’s daughter.

Woman steals supplies in sling

Police arrested an Ellettsville woman Tuesday for stealing supplies from Bloomington Hospital in a sling on her arm after a workplace accident.
