Before her Psychology 101 class, Haley writes in her planner. Haley is a psychology major and so was her sister, Hannah Wilson. “Knowing I probably have taken the same classes as her, I definitely feel more connected to her,” Haley said.

The day after Thanksgiving, the Wilson family gathers around the television to watch old movies of Hannah and Haley at Jeff’s home in Noblesville, Ind. Every Saturday, they would make the films and present them to their family. Hannah used to be the director and Haley followed along. “She definitely was the more creative one than me,” Haley said. “She would make up the ideas.”
Haley looks at old photos and cheer awards on the wall in Hannah's room at her mom's home in Noblesville, Ind. Haley tries to remember Hannah for who she was, not how she died. "I don’t really cry. I never think about that night," Haley said. "I never talk about that night. We never talk about Hannah in the past tense, only the present. That way, you forget the details that come up about the night. We only talk positive. To me, she’s just on vacation.”
Hannah's diploma, cap and tassel sit on her desk at home. Because Hannah died a couple weeks before graduation, she never got to walk in her ceremony. Haley has plans to wear Hannah’s cap and tassel on her graduation though. “That will be something where I finally to do something she didn’t get to do. Right now since I’m 18, I’m still doing everything that she’s gotten to do, so that will definitely be hard,” Haley said.
Haley performs to the IU Fight Song during the football game against Rutgers on Oct. 17 at Memorial Stadium. Haley was not going to cheer when she came to school, but the coach called after classes started and invited her to join the all-girls squad. "Cheerleading this year for me definitely has helped me make friends here and have time management and a good schedule,” Haley said. “Otherwise, I’d probably be in bed most of the time.”
Pictures of friends, Haley's sister Hannah Wilson and a blown glass ornament of Hannah's ashes sit on her desk. Haley and her mom each have their own blown glass ornament. Hanna's ashes are sprinkled inside with purple color, which was Hannah's favorite color.
Members of Gamma Phi and Haley wrap their arms around each other and sway to "See You Again” during homecoming weekend. “I feel like I’ve made other sisters through Hannah’s friends, not just Hannah. It’s nice to know that other people on campus have gone through what I’ve been through too,” Haley said.
While riding the A bus, Haley looks out the window onto Jordan Avenue. “The bus rides can be hard,” Haley said. “Sometimes just riding around, it makes me sad. It brings back everything. I try to stay so focused on her as a person, not on what happened.”
While the Hoondog Duo plays "See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa, Haley cries as her sister's best friend Anisa Jallal (left) and Haley's best friend Alexis Klein (right) embrace her at the Gamma Phi house during homecoming weekend. “When they started playing that, I just never recovered after that. It was very sad,” Haley said. “Then everyone is singing ‘See You Again’ and we are holding each other, all of Hannah’s best friends. It was so overwhelming.”
IU freshman Haley Wilson waits for the bus on a Tuesday morning outside Briscoe Residence Center. "I’ve always been wise beyond my years.” Haley says she tries very hard not to “pull the card” in her life. She does not want her sister's death to interfere with her everyday schedule. Haley says she has never skipped class because she has felt too sad or depressed. Sometimes, however, things break her composure.
A cross as part of a memorial was formed where Hannah Wilson's body was found in rural Brown County. Wilson was killed on April 24.
