Well, this is what it’s come to.
A little over two years ago, “Roma” premiered at the Venice Film Festival. It made rounds at a handful of festivals before a brief run in movie theaters and dropped onto Netflix on December 14, 2018.
I was really excited for “I’m Thinking of Ending Things,” the latest movie written and directed by Charlie Kaufman. He was the writer behind some of my favorite movies, such as “Adaptation.” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” so I was looking forward to seeing his next effort on Netflix.
Only in 2020 could a remake of “Mulan” be one of the year’s most controversial movies.
The release of Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” has become much more dramatic than what would normally be expected from a blockbuster. Originally set for theatrical release July 17, it was delayed three times due to the coronavirus pandemic. The pandemic changed “Tenet” from a standard big-budget release into more of an event.
The closing of movie theaters for the last several months has been a very strange experience. I went from seeing new releases regularly to not going to theaters at all – a very sharp break for me. The initial outbreak of COVID-19 and its rapid spread forced government officials to determine which businesses should be kept open- a category movie theaters were never going to be placed in.
Last week brought the news that every fan dreads. Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the creators behind “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” announced Aug. 12 they would no longer be involved in the live-action adaptation of the original series, which would have been in the form of a television show on Netflix.
