The Bloomington Faculty Council met Tuesday in Presidents Hall to discuss the Supreme Court of the United States’ recent ruling on affirmative action, new demands being made by faculty members and IU’s new classes registration plan.
Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb appointed Kyle Seibert, an IU master’s of public affairs student and former IU student body president during the 2022-23 academic year, to the IU Board of Trustees last week. Holcomb also appointed J. Timothy Morris, a Kelley School of Business alumnus and partner of Proprium Capital Partners, to the board, according to a recent IU press release.
A new provision allowing vehicles with six or more unpaid citations to be towed will go into effect June 12. The change comes after Bloomington city council approved the new provision to the city code last year, according to Indiana Public Media.
The Indiana gasoline tax will go up one cent to 34 cents a gallon beginning July 1, according to the Associated Press. Currently, the gas tax in Indiana is 33 cents a gallon.
The city of Bloomington is now accepting applications from community members who would like to serve on one of the 11 following boards or commissions. There are currently more than 45 boards and commissions that advise the mayor and city council in the City of Bloomington.
With the end of the spring semester, some campus buildings and services will have modified hours and renovations during the summer break.
The Kelley School of Business launched an Institute for Environmental and Social Sustainability on April 24. Through the institute, current and future business leaders can learn more about the environment and sustainability to create a global impact, Rebecca Slotegraff, the associate dean for research at the Kelley School of Business said. The institute is open and offers courses but does not have a set location yet.
Bloomington farmers’ markets opened April 1 for the 2023 season and will run until the beginning of November. Shoppers can find locally grown produce, music, flowers and more every Saturday.
In 1945, freshman running back, George Taliaferro played a huge role in leading the undefeated Indiana football team into the Big Ten championship. Four years later, he became the first Black player drafted to the NFL for the Chicago Bears. He ended up playing for the Los Angeles Dons and several other professional teams throughout his career.
