In a prelude to Sunday's pay-per-view, "No Mercy," and in front of a sold-out crowd at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Eddie Guerrero set the stage for "Monday Night Raw" by entering the ring first and bad-mouthing Chyna. Look for these two to stay broken up, as Guerrero will face Bad Ass Billy Gunn Sunday. You could even see Gunn with the Intercontinental Title come next Monday's Raw.\nRikishi then gave an interview about Stone Cold Steve Austin. His feelings were hurt because The Rock did not appreciate him running over Austin to help launch his career. Later in the show when Austin came out to address the crowd, Rikishi came on the big screen. \nBecause Rikishi has tendonitis in his knee, there was no physical contact between the two, but there will be one "helluva" brawl this Sunday. Anticipate Austin to lay the smack down on Rikishi, as this will be Austin\'s first wrestling match since returning from his injury.\nWilliam Regal defeated Al Snow to become the European Champion. Regal will probably hold this title for a while, seeing as he is a newcomer and is British.\nTriple H and Kane went at each other in a physical match. Triple H gave Kane a pedigree outside the ring. Chris Benoit then interfered with the match by getting Triple H in the cross-face crippler. Triple H and Benoit will wrestle at No Mercy, and I am predicting a good match, with Triple H being the fan favorite.\nChris Jericho (Y2J) and X-Pac are set to face each other in a steel cage match Sunday. With luck, this will be the last of the feud between these two. I predict Y2J will come out victorious, because they will work him into a different angle to start facing some more big time competitors, seeing as how Y2J is also a fan favorite.\n The Dudley Boys faced Los Conquis-tadors -- siply Edge and Christian dressed all in gold -- on Raw and lost. When D-Von was getting a table from under the ring, Buh Buh Ray was pinned.\n Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley introduced Kurt Angle for the main event on Raw. Stephanie now accompanies Angle to the ring as his manager. The main event was with Angle and Edge & Christian against The Rock and The Hardy Boys. The Rock immediately attacked Angle once he got to the ring, and he was ready to pin Angle when Stephanie interrupted the match. With The Rock distracted by Stephanie, Angle was able to get Jeff Hardy pinned for the victory.\nThe main event at No Mercy is going to be an interesting one. With Stephanie now accompanying Angle at the ring, I would not be surprised to see a title change. The Rock has held the title for quite some time, and this would be a good spin off to have Triple H launch his career again without Stephanie. \nBy giving Angle the title, fans would dislike him even more, not a bad thing in the good guy, bad guy scheme of professional wrestling. \nAlso, this would open up a lot more possibilities for different champions. Rikishi and Stone Cold will not be fighting long. But, everyone would love to see The Rock and Austin wrestle. By launching Angle\'s career with the title, The Rock can try to find his niche as the bad guy. \nThis might be difficult for the WWF, but in the world of wrestling the good guy always has to face the bad guy.

After months of investigation, the identity of the man who ran over Stone Cold Steve Austin last November at Survivor Series was finally uncovered. \nMonday night, the "Heart Break Kid," (HBK) Shawn Michaels was interviewed.\nAnaheim, Calif. was in for quite an interesting show. \n Mick Foley addressed the issue of who ran over "The Rattlesnake," and turned to Michaels. HBK was a prime suspect in the saga. Michaels said he did not run over Austin, but insinuated that The Rock did. HBK said nobody liked the spotlight as much as he did, except for maybe one person. When describing that person, he told Foley to "smell what I'm cooking," stating his obvious choice. \nI felt that Michaels was going to be the guilty one in this situation, as he has stated plenty of times that he would like to wrestle one more match. I believe that he will still receive a chance at this shot in an effort to bring back D-Generation X, perhaps by fighting Y2J, Chris Jericho.\nFoley then brought in the WWF chief executive officer Linda McMahon for questioning. She said it would be bad business to run over Austin, seeing as he produces so much money for the WWF. But she did say The Rock has sold more merchandise since Austin has been injured. I do not believe this is foreshadowing a return for Vince McMahon but shows how powerful Linda McMahon truly is.\nAlso, we found out that Triple H is going to face Chris Benoit at No Mercy. He teamed up with Jericho to face Benoit and X-Pac. Look for Triple H to destroy Benoit at the pay-per-view match.\nEddie Guerrero and Chyna were set to face Right to Censor But, the focus of this segment was not on the match. Instead, GTV made a triumphant return by showing Guerrero in the shower with two women. Chyna then let Guerrero get his butt kicked, and he sobbed like a two-year-old outside of the ring.\nAfter Guerrero was pummeled, Right to Censor went after Chyna. Bad Ass Billy Gunn then came out to help his former D-Xer from suffering any more pain. Perhaps we are going to have another "love" triangle.\nFoley continued on his search. He questioned Crash Holly, then Scotty Too Hotty. Scotty said at Survivor Series he was merely chilling back stage with Grand Masta Sexay and Rikishi.\nAfter the lackluster main event that featured The Rock and Rikishi against Kane and Kurt Angle, Foley came out to determine the guilty party. All evidence at this time seemed to point at The Rock. But Foley then stated that it was not The Rock, but Rikishi. \nIn a very confusing situation, Rikishi admitted that it was him, but it was done only to help The Rock. I still cannot believe it. The WWF had their best chance to turn The Rock into a heel, and they failed. This will no doubt build to be a feud between The Rock and Stone Cold.\nFoley put two and two together this week to find the culprit, but I am not sure that it added up to what the fans wanted.

For those who live in the dorms and do not get TNN, you missed an exciting Monday Night Raw. This was one of the better episodes I have seen. And with all the superstars in the WWF getting healthy, it will only get better.\nIn front of a sold-out crowd at the MCI Center in Washington, D.C., The Rock was the first wrestler to make his way to the ring. Once The Rock got his chance to speak, he began belittling Kurt Angle. He said he was going to give Angle a shot at the WWF title. Angle came out to the arena to accept the challenge. \nCommissioner Mick Foley decided he had seen enough, and he addressed the two wrestlers. Foley told The Rock to let Angle "slide" for the night, because Foley had someone else in mind for Angle. Immediately after the announcement, Triple H made his way to the ring. Foley decided to put Angle and Triple H in a No. 1 contender match. \nChris Benoit did not seem happy with this decision. As he marched his way to the ring, he demanded Foley give him a title match. Kane also had an opinion and made his way to the ring to say he would soon wear the title belt around his waist. \nIn what appeared to be an effort to get every wrestling superstar into the ring, Rikishi said he had some unfinished business to take care of with Kane. All this mayhem of bringing wrestlers to the ring left the obvious decision to Foley. He created the tag-team match of The Rock & Rikishi v. Benoit & Kane.\nAfter half an hour of no actual wrestling, The Hardy Boys came out to defend their tag-team titles against Too Cool. Too Cool came out to some different music, but it is still the same lackluster team as always. But Scotty 2 Hotty did get to execute his signature move, "The Worm," on Matt Hardy. Even though this move would not be enough to pin my grandma, Scotty managed to get a two count before Matt Hardy got his foot on the rope. \nNext thing you know, former tag-team champions Edge & Christian made their way to the ring, and Edge immediately went after Matt Hardy. Coincidentally, he missed Hardy and hit Grand Master Sexay, leaving the door open for Jeff Hardy to execute the Swanton Bomb and a quick pin to retain the titles.\nNext, Foley wanted to address the issue of Stone Cold Steve Austin. Foley said he wanted Austin to stop interfering in matches and stunning everyone in sight. Austin made his way to the ring and told the commissioner his search was failing.\nIn a surprising move Foley brought out Bad Ass Billy Gunn, in his first appearance since a shoulder injury kept him out of the action. Foley had accused Gunn of being the culprit who ran over Austin last November. Gunn told Austin that he was not the one who ran over him, but he knew that it was a person with blonde hair. Austin told Gunn he believed him then stunned him because he said he never liked Gunn anyway. Although I do not believe this was the best way to bring Gunn into the action, it is good to see him back and healthy.\nIn an effort to punish Austin, Foley made his way to the ring to discuss Austin's insubordinate behavior. Before he could even get a chance to punish Austin, the Rattlesnake stunned Foley. Foley retreated to the back and went crazy as Austin left the building, slamming about 10 beers in the ring.\nThe main event was a see-saw battle with lots of close pin falls. Stephanie made her way to the squared circle, though Triple H had told her earlier not to come out. Triple H then put Angle through the announcer's table. As Triple H had Angle right where he wanted him for the victory, Benoit came out to the ring to grab Stephanie. \nWith the referee still down, Angle grabbed Triple H to throw him back in the ring. Angle made an effort to hit Triple H with a chair, but Stephanie grabbed it to save her husband. But Benoit grabbed the chair and hit Triple H, allowing Angle to gain the No. 1 contender spot. \nTriple H was not happy after the ordeal as he had told Stephanie not to come to the ring. Had it not for been for Stephanie, Triple H would be the No. 1 contender. Wouldn\'t you be mad if your wife lost you a shot at the title?

Stone Cold Steve Austin made a triumphant return at the WWF pay-per-view "Unforgiven" Sunday night. Once he made his way to the ring, he was on a mission. His goal was to find the person who ran him over with a car 10 months ago, putting him on the injured list.\nThroughout his relentless journey, Austin talked with many of the wrestlers in an effort to find the culprit. All he found was that it was going to be tricky to get an answer. This did not seem to matter to the crowd, nor to Austin, as he went back to his old ways of "drinking beer and whooping ass."\nThings did not change on TNN's first broadcast of Monday Night Raw this week. Austin was the first wrestler to come out to the ring in front of a sold-out crowd at Penn State University. Once again, there was an uproar by the fans for the "Rattlesnake." While Austin was in the ring talking to the fans, WWF commissioner Mick Foley interrupted him. Foley came out to tell Austin that he would help him with his search for the culprit. \nChris Benoit then came out to argue his merit as WWF champion with Foley in a segment that was about as interesting as watching paint dry. Foley agreed that, in a way, he "screwed" Benoit by letting a match continue the previous night at "Unforgiven." When Benoit pinned The Undertaker in the "fatal four-way," The Undertaker had his feet on the ropes, preventing Benoit from retaining the title. This turn of events should not have even been involved in the match, but I am not one of the writers. In an effort to make amends with Benoit, Foley granted his wishes for a rematch. \nIn other news, Raven, a wrestler recently acquired from East Coast Wrestling (ECW), made his debut in the WWF to help out his old school buddy, Tazz. Raven is a bright young star and will have a bright future with the federation. \nMy predictions about new tag-team champions could not be any more correct. The Hardy Boys successfully beat Edge and Christian in a steel cage match, then defended their titles on Raw in a ladder match. The matches were impressive, including such high-flying stunts as Edge spearing Jeff Hardy from 15 feet in the air. \nChyna made quite a debut Monday, but this debut was not with the WWF. She appears on the cover of this month's issue of Playboy. I understand that for my female readers this might not be of any interest, but I strongly recommend picking up this intriguing issue. I was not impressed with the speech Chyna gave on Raw, which I guess is why she chose to pose naked rather than pursue a career in oration. \nIn the main event, The Rock was ready to face Benoit, but Shane McMahon surprised the crowd by accompanying Benoit to the ring. Of course, it would not be a main event without outside influences. Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley made her way to the ring to care for an injured Shane, and Triple H followed, stepping into the ring for her protection.\nThis incited Angle to make his way to the ring to cause his share of trouble. \nTriple H helped The Rock out by setting Benoit up for a Rock Bottom. The Rock was able once again to retain his title. Angle and Triple H then began to wrestle, as did The Rock and Benoit. In a surprise move, Benoit head-butted Stephanie as he made his way backstage. \nWhat I see here is an effort to bring Benoit into the mix with Angle and Triple H. This gives the writers different angles to place Benoit, as nobody wants to see Benoit and The Rock paired anymore. This will then leave an opening for either Triple H or Angle to face The Rock in the ring. In my opinion, with Austin not ready to actually wrestle for a few more weeks, we are going to see an Angle vs. The Rock feud starting to shape up. Angle is a bright young star with a promising future. The question is whether or not he will have Stephanie by his side.

In this week's episode of Monday Night Raw, there was more badmouthing than actual matches.\nThis was a special Raw because it was the last broadcast on USA. With the show moving to The Nashville Network because of contract disputes, ratings are expected to jump. Those who watch will continue to watch the show, and those who watch TNN might also get hooked.\nAlso, with the pay-per-view event, "Unforgiven," only four days away, there was even more drama built up between wrestlers. Here are my predictions on what is going to happen at "Unforgiven." \nWe are going to have new tag-team champions. Two gymnastic, high-flying teams will face each other. While Edge & Christian have held the title belts for some time now, The Hardy Boys deserve their time to shine. This will be an acrobatic match involving high-risk maneuvers, but in the end look for Matt and Jeff Hardy to leave the arena with the tag-team belts.\nFans seem to be getting bored with Eddie Guerrero and Chyna. They have not been clicking well in the past couple of weeks, and it is time for both of them to make a singles run. Guerrero is a talented wrestler and the Intercontinental Champion, which would make for a great Guerrero vs. Chyna match after a big break up at "Unforgiven."\nOur favorite soap opera triangle, Triple H, Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley and Kurt Angle will take a turn this Sunday. WWF Commissioner Mick Foley is the special guest referee, and this means you will likely see a wrestling match between Stephanie's husband, Triple H, and her friend, Angle. Things could get interesting once Stephanie becomes involved.\nIn the main event, a "Fatal Four-Way" match between The Rock, Chris Benoit, The Undertaker and Kane, the action will be intense. I do not see any of the other three wrestlers becoming the new WWF Champion. The Rock is a great champion and does not need to lose the belt just yet, especially with the return of "The Rattlesnake," Stone Cold Steve Austin. \nStone Cold's return is going to be amazing. I am unsure what role he will play this Sunday, but I have a feeling it will be a big one. If The Rock does lose his title belt at "Unforgiven," it will be because of interference from Austin. If Austin does interfere look for The Rock to be livid on next week's Monday Night Raw. \nThe WWF is going to be loaded with talent once Stone Cold returns. With Monday Night Raw moving over to TNN this Monday, look for increased action in the squared circle.

Although Bob Knight was unjustly terminated Sunday, Monday Night Raw continued. \nSomehow it also managed to receive a 7.2 rating, tops among all cable television shows. In front of a sold out crowd in Phoenix, Ariz., Mick Foley came out to help publicize the return of WWF great Stone Cold Steve Austin. \n The Rock then made his way to the ring to claim revenge for what happened last Thursday, where he was choke-slammed by Kane. Next, Chris Benoit came out to a parade of boos louder than if Kent Harvey were to become new interim coach for the men's basketball team. Kane and The Undertaker quickly came to the ring in an effort to start foreshadowing the main event at the Sept. 24 pay-per-view "Unforgiven." This was a seemingly weak introduction to Raw, and I was anxious to see what was going to unfold.\nNext, the show's writers decided to bring the tag team contenders out. The Dudley Boys came to the ring to face my personal favorites, The Hardy Boys. In a not-so-surprising move, Edge & Christian were guest commentators for the match. This match ended in a disqualification but the Dudley Boys did manage to 3-D Christian through a table. The Hardy Boys will be facing Edge & Christian at "Unforgiven," and expect these two high fliers to leave the ring that night with the belts.\nTriple H was scheduled to face a surprise opponent on Raw. After telling Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley not to come to the ring, he went out to face his opponent, Y2J, Chris Jericho. Worried about Triple H, Stephanie came out to the ring. Continuing the love triangle, Kurt Angle came out and tried to bring Stephanie backstage. After Triple H saw this, he immediately attacked Angle. In an effort to launch his singles career, X-Pac seized the opportunity and gave Y2J the "X-factor." Expect to see some drama between X-Pac and Triple H. These once good friends might be spending some time apart, as Triple H caused him to be disqualified.\nContinuing with the saga, Angle's handicap match between Test & Albert was interfered with, when Stephanie went to take care of business on T & A's manager, Trish Stratus. Triple H was not very happy to see his wife come to the ring and found his way out to feud with Angle. In an effort to stop the two from feuding, Stephanie received a barrage of incidental elbows by her husband, giving Angle another opportunity to make his move on Stephanie in the up-and-coming weeks. \nThe main event was lackluster and expected. It was a tag team match between The Rock & Undertaker and Kane & Benoit. The Undertaker was outside of the ring when Kane and Benoit double-teamed The Undertaker to pick up a victory. Remember, The Rock was double-teamed last week against Kane & Benoit to get defeated. It almost seemed like poetic justice for The Undertaker to pick up the loss this week with The Rock unavailable to come to his aid. But, the night did not end with a pin-fall as the four superstars continued to go at it. A "Rock Bottom" from The Rock and a choke slam from Undertaker occurred simultaneously to end the show.\nWith a pay-per-view event less than two weeks away, Monday Night Raw did nothing but foreshadow what was going to happen. I was not very impressed with what happened on Raw, but with Stone Cold Steve Austin coming back Sept. 24, the WWF is going to explode bigger than it might have ever been before. I can't wait.

In front of a sold out crowd of 15,000 fans in Lexington, Ky., Triple H, who was allegedly "arrested" on the UPN Smackdown last Thursday, made his way to the ring with his "wife" Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley. Triple H told the crowd he would not leave the squared circle until he got some answers as to who called the "police," leading to his arrest for allegedly hitting Stephanie. \nAs Stephanie and Triple H stood in the ring, commissioner Mick Foley emerged to an uproar from the fans. After a few wisecracks to Triple H and his wife, he said there was one likely suspect, a man of integrity. This had the sold-out crowd expecting Kurt Angle, who goes by the Three I's: intelligence, intensity and integrity. Angle came into the ring and denied he was the one who called police Thursday. \nFoley, wondering who the culprit could be, asked for Chyna ' who will be appearing in Playboy later this September ' to come to the ring and be accused of bringing in the cops. Chyna then denied that she called 911 to arrest Triple H. Then, in a surprise move, Test came to the podium and admitted he called so Triple H would miss the rest of Smackdown. \nHaving gotten to the bottom of everything, it was time to start wrestling. \nFoley booked a match between Triple H and Test for later on in the evening. Triple H, not willing to wait for the match, ran out to the podium to attack Test. Angle, however, made an attack on Triple H like Mike Singletary used to do for the 1985 Chicago Bears, and with the help of Test, kept him on the ground.\nAfter the first commercial break, half an hour had passed without a single wrestling match. WWF Champion The Rock made his way to the announcer's table as a special guest commentator. The first actual match, between Chris Benoit and Kane, was about on, and it was to see who would face the champion at the next monthly pay-per-view event, Unforgiven. \nAfter some wrestling and a quick shot into Kane's back with a chair, Benoit was disqualified. But this did not stop The Rock from getting a Rock Bottom on Kane, leaving the ring to an uproar from the fans. \nThe only other match truly worth watching was a triple threat match between Kurt Angle, Chyna and Guerrero. \nAfter the match got under way, Angle took Chyna's Intercontinental Title and knocked her over the head with it. Guerrero then threw Angle over the top rope before he went to console Chyna. What appeared to be a hug by Guerrero turned out to be a pin as the referee counted 1-2-3 on Guerrero's hug to Chyna. In a surprise move, Guerrero was crowned the new Intercontinental Champion. \nAfter the main event got going and The Rock kicked butt for a while, Benoit came out of the back to interfere with the match. With The Rock's partner outside of the ring, Edge and Christian made a chair sandwich out of Rocky smashing him in both sides of his head to keep their tag team titles. \nThe Undertaker was unable to make it to the ring to help his tag-team partner because he was feuding with Kane, the guest commentator. All of this was set up to see who The Rock would fight at Unforgiven. \nThe show ended with Kane and The Undertaker going toe-to-toe outside the ring. \nWith The Undertaker and Kane fighting and the love triangle between Angle, Triple H and Stephanie, it seems Benoit is the likely opponent for The Rock at the next pay-per-view. \nIU has a better chance of becoming a wet campus than Benoit has of beating The Rock, but in a world full of fixed matches, anything can happen.
(08/30/00 5:42am)
"Finally, The Rock has come back to Greensboro!" \nThose were the words that Duane Johnson, better known as World Wrestling Federation superstar The Rock, shouted Monday night in front of a sold-out crowd for Monday Night Raw in Greensboro, N.C. Raw, the highest rated show in cable television history, was pushed back from its usual time slot of 8-10 p.m. because of the U.S. Open Tennis Championship. But this did not stop the show from beating its leading competitor, Monday Night Nitro, in ratings for the 90th week in a row. \nConsidered by some to be a male soap opera, the show that appears every week on USA network has revolutionized the term "sports entertainment." \nWWF Commissioner and best-selling author Mick Foley; a.k.a. Cactus Jack; a.k.a. Mankind; a.k.a. Dude Love, began the show that followed the WWF's hit pay-per-view event, Sunday night's Summer Slam. After making an appearance and booking all of the matches that will take place on Raw, the festivities were ready to begin.\nChris Jericho, known to wrestling fans as Y2J, made his way to the ring jamming to his theme music. Jericho was teamed up with the Acolytes, a wrestling tag team. The three were to go up against Chris Benoit and T & A, a sexual innuendo for the wrestlers known as Test and Albert. Benoit and T & A appeared to have the advantage because of their manager and former fitness guru, Trish Stratus, a sex symbol not normally known for her wrestling moves. The match went back and forth until Jericho was able to perform his moonsault, an acrobatic wrestling move in which he backflipped off the middle rope of the ring onto Albert, sealing the victory.\nAfter this match, the soap opera slowly started to progress. The legitimate 1996 freestyle wrestling Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle had recently been feuding with Triple H over Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley, daughter of WWF Chairman Vince McMahon. \nMcMahon-Helmsley is the "wife" of Triple H, as long as you know that the people on "Days of our Lives" and "General Hospital" are not really married. As the feud between Angle and Triple H continues, other wrestlers get thrown into the mix of things. To add to this drama, Chyna went into the locker room to comfort Triple H. Chyna told Triple H that he just needed to trust Stephanie, who according to the wrestling world had not been around for the last 24 hours. As Chyna and Triple H hugged in appreciation for one another, Chyna's boyfriend, Eddie Guerrero, walked in on the action. Unhappy by this unpleasant site, Guerrero began arguing with Triple H.\nNext to the ring was the comical part of the evening. Tag team champions Edge and Christian made their way to the squared circle, another name for wrestling ring, and pretended to thank the Hardy Boys and Dudley Boys for the effort they gave the previous evening at the pay-per-view. Inviting the Hardy Boys out, the two high-flying, acrobatic wrestlers were mocked by two midgets dressed to look just like them. \nI must admit the two guys were Mini-Me's compared to the Hardy Boys. Then, in a surprise move the Dudley Boys music came on. With the Dudley Boys helping publicize the federation at WWF New York, a popular new bar in the Big Apple, it was quite a surprise to both fans and wrestlers. But Edge and Christian got the last laugh as the tag team champions had cloned yet another tag team duo with miniature replicas of the infamous Dudley's. It was the most lighthearted part of the evening for the WWF. \nThe love triangle between Triple H, Angle and McMahon-Helmsley then became sidetracked as Angle talked Guerrero into taking on Triple H. Guerrero took control of the match early, but Triple H then turned the tides. He had the match won and was about to pedigree Guerrero, when Angle stormed down the ramp and into the ring, slamming Triple H in the head with a steel chair. He then hit Guerrero with the chair, flooring the two adversaries. This will not be the last that we hear about this saga.\nThe most important part about Raw is War is the main event. Rather than tune in to watch Monday Night Football, it was time to smell what the Rock was cooking. In a see-saw battle between the People's Champion, The Rock, and the 7 foot, 330 pound Kane, the Undertaker, Kane's brother, rode out on his Harley Davidson and choke slammed (exactly the way it sounds) his brother, sealing the match for The Rock. The Undertaker and Kane had not been getting along very well the past few weeks. This opened a window of opportunity, opened by the Undertaker, allowed for The Rock to keep his title belt. \nThis is all the excitement that happens in just a two-hour episode of Monday Night Raw. But each week it seems to get better and better.
