All throughout the play, visitors interrupt McCray to pay their penny and choose their pistol, including the couple, an Asian man and a man who recreates the moment to historical accuracy choosing the Derringer pistol everytime and recites Booth's exact words before his escape.

Senior Patrick Hercamp re-enacts the assassination of "Abraham Lincoln," played by McCray, in Ford's Theatre dressed as John Wilkes Booth. The play is told from the perspective of McCray's character "Foundling Father," and explores the question 'Can black identity ever truly be formed when it is constructed upon white history?'
McCray tells his history to the audience. "The America Play" shows March 27, 28, 31 and April 4 at 7:30 p.m., and an early afternoon performance April 4 at 2 p.m..
