This is my fifth year at Indiana University—I’ve returned for a master’s program—and I can confidently say there are some spots at IU that get all the love. Think of the Indiana Memorial Union, the Student Recreational Sports Center and the not-sinking Herman B Wells Library. I love them too, hard as it can be to find an open table at the IMU or a weight machine at the SRSC.

On a sunny September day —the first Thursday of the month — crowds of students gathered to partake in the First Thursday Festival to celebrate the arts and humanities on campus. The air was filled with music blaring from speakers and karaoke performers joined the stage. The street was filled with sidewalk chalk and booths with smiling volunteers, who cheerfully invited students to learn more about their organizations.

Kelly Hill, the author of the new book, “A Home for Friendless Women," will visit Morgenstern’s Bookstore for a conversation about her new historical novel, and will be signing copies at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday July 25. Hill will discuss the book with Jessica Hille, who is a gender and sexuality scholar and the Assistant Director for Education at IU’s Kinsey Institute.

The Fourth of July Parade and the 9 a.m. performance by the Bloomington Community Band is cancelled, according to a City of Bloomington press release Thursday. The Fourth of July Parade was set to take place 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. in Downtown Bloomington but has been cancelled due to severe weather.

Bloomington punks young and old came together Saturday outside the Monroe County History Center for Streetdance Rewind, a free outdoor music festival which celebrated the scene’s history with the talents of current and classic Bloomington-based bands.

The Monroe County History Center will host Streetdance Rewind, a free outdoor punk music festival, at 5 p.m. on June 29 on Sixth Street in front of the History Center. The event is happening in conjunction with The History Center’s exhibit “Punk @ the Old Library,” which captures the history of Bloomington’s punk scene from the 70s to the present moment.
