People walk through the IU surplus store on Tuesday to find used items to furnish their homes. The surplus store sells used campus items such as computers, printers, office furniture and equipment, and general household items. The store is located on 2931 East 10th Street and is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

On Saturday the spring bike auction was held at the Jordan Avenue parking garage. All the bicycles in the bike auction were abandoned on campus and collected by the Parking Operations Department. There was a wide verity of bikes including a Little 500 style bike that want for 230 dollars.

A presentation on rain gardens was given by Aaron Wagner Saturday at City Hall, people were able to view layouts of designs and installation and maintenance of different rain gardens. This was part of Earth Week 2010.

On Wednesday people gathered at City Hall to listen to a lecture over victory gardens. The victory gardens were original called war gardens to encourage families to grow their own food during the wars when there was a shortage of food. Handouts were also given to people who wanted to gain information on how to start and successfully grow their own victory garden.

Monday the IU Department of Theater and Drama Presented Martin Sheen as the 2010 Ralph L. Collins Memorial Lecture Speaker. Martin has appeared in films and TV series for many years. He is most known for his role on The West Wing for seven years as the U.S. President, Josiah Bartlet.

A game of wheelchair rugby was played Friday in the Student Recreational Sports Center. The game is also known as murderball and is similar to football. Each team consists of four players, playing a fifteen minute game of throwing the ball to one another and then wheeling through the end zone to score a point. Audience members were also given the opportunity to strap themselves into a wheelchair and play a game with the team members. The team is based out of Indy is sponsored by Rehabilitation Hospital Institution.

The professional business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi sponsored a fashion show Tuesday in the Neal Marshall Grand Hall. The casual environment allowed the models to entertain the views in a fun way while featuring a variety of men and women clothing from The Limited, Macy's, Target, KS Menswear, and Inseam Denim Supply. In the end the models came out one last time to show off the latest fashion from local clothing departments.

Student Organization kick off the energy challenge event in dorms Thursday in Willkie Auditorium. The event, Stop Light Party allowed students to dance, eat, and mingle with other students. Students were also distinguished in being single or taken by wearing certain colored glow sticks.

The first annual Women’s History Quiz Bowl was held Thursday at the Wilkie Auditorium. The event was held to celebrate Women’s History Month and to create a fun interactive environment to learn about women history. The game was similar to Jeopardy with categories in Politics, Famous Writers, Female Leaders, Statistics, and Women in the Workplace. Four teams, Women in Computing, Savant, Cuteheads, and Kelly Living Learning Center competed for prizes from Campusfood, Walmart, a photo shot, or dinner at LongHorn Steakhouse. In the final round Kelly Living Learning Center (left) bet Cuteheads (right) with a score of 22,300 and wining the dinner at LongHorn Steakhouse.

IU Student Association’s Kirkwood ticket had a rally Feb. 2 at the Indiana Memorial Union. The group spoke about its plans to have a fall break and getting meal points in the Union in the upcoming year.

President McRobbie gave his speech on Tuesday at the Indiana Memorial Union. He spoke about where Indiana University stands now and the future plans to improve the levels of excellence in academic programs. In addition, he spoke about the money need to be rised for the re construction of buildings on the Bloomington campus.

The Bloomington Convention Center held a fashion show called "The Trashion Refashion Show," Saturday as a fundraiser for the Center of Sustainable Living. The clothing pieces were made from trash and recyclable materials, that are not normally used as clothing. Trashion are previously used clothing that has been re-worked into a new style called re-fashion. This model wears a skirt fashioned from scarps of fabric, a swimsuit top, and a shawl made out of dryer sheets.

The grand opening of Dunn Meadow Café located below The Commons in the Indiana Memorial Union took place on Monday. The Café offers a variety of fresh and healthy meal options at affordable prices. The menu is displayed for the viewer on a flat screen television where the options of sandwiches, pitas, wraps, or build your own creation from healthy choices of hummus, chicken, turkey, and vegetables. There is also a salad bar, variety of soups, and drinks. The Café is open Monday through Friday from 10:30-3:30.
