For the second time in two weeks, rain has impacted an Indiana baseball (22-18, 7-5 Big Ten) game versus Ball State (25-15, 12-9 MAC). Originally scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at Victory Field in Indianapolis, the Hoosiers and Cardinals will now play at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Scheumann Stadium in Muncie, Indiana, per release.

In a near-mirror image of its blowout loss in Terre Haute on March 19, Indiana baseball routed Indiana State University 16-7 Tuesday night at Bart Kaufman Field behind shortstop Tyler Cerny’s four-hit game and third baseman Josh Pyne’s go-ahead, slump-busting home run. Junior infielder Brock Tibbitts, who has started all but two possible games thus far in his career, exited the game with an apparent left leg injury in the top of the second inning.

Indiana baseball continued its middling performance this weekend, splitting a four-game series versus Butler University. With the series finale tied at five at the top of the ninth inning, Indiana’s bullpen once again sputtered. Butler first baseman Kade Lewis hit a go-ahead three-run home run and southpaw Cole Graverson slammed the door to send the Bulldogs home with an 8-5 victory just hours after being blown out by 19 runs.

Indiana baseball got back on track Tuesday night, defeating Middle Tennessee State University 12-5 behind a two-homer day from second baseman Jasen Oliver, three-hit performances from outfielder Carter Mathison and infielder Brock Tibbitts. The pitching staff did its part with 18 strikeouts, including six in the final two innings from right-hander Brayden Risedorph.

Baseball is a silly game. Indiana head coach Jeff Mercer says it all the time. Some days, the deck is stacked against your team and there’s nothing you can do. On other days, everything you touch turns to gold. "That's baseball” can be used to justify outliers like a four-error game or blowout loss, but when the anomalies become trends, this dismissive approach no longer works.

No. 23 Indiana baseball continued its red-hot start to the season, sweeping Baylor University on the road to extend its winning streak to six games. Sophomore outfielder Devin Taylor and senior outfielder Morgan Colopy each hit multiple home runs and sophomore right-handed pitcher Connor Foley pitched a gem to lead the Hoosiers over the Bears in Waco, Texas.

Indiana baseball slotted in at No. 23 in D1Baseball’s first in-season rankings, released Monday morning. The Hoosiers are coming off a 2-1 opening weekend in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where they pulled off a road upset over Coastal Carolina University, 7-2. This is the first time Indiana has been ranked since May 10, 2021, when it entered the poll at No. 21 and then dropped out a week later.

Indiana baseball picked up right where it left off last season, spraying baseballs all over Brooks Stadium at Coastal Carolina University. The Hoosiers bounced back from a 6-3 opening day loss to No. 12 Duke University on Friday by upsetting No. 18 Coastal Carolina 7-2 on Saturday and finishing the weekend with a 9-3 victory over George Mason University.
