Wringer's first EP, Cool Story, exists in the gray space between post-punk and the ultra-mainstream, punk pop.
The minimalist musical stylings are reminiscent of traditional punk rock. Likewise, the songs are hard and fast, but the attitude and lyrics are less Clash and more evocative of Green Day's upbeat songs circa 1993, before their music was commercialized. The three-man band consists of Jared on bass, Anthony on guitar, and Jake on drums.
Wringer's music can be classified as somewhat immature, but this isn't a negative categorization. They make the kind of music that appeals to that teen angst left over from high school. Like any good rock band, you relate what you are feeling to the song and the music magnifies your experience. Wringer brings the raw and uncensored emotion that makes punk rock a legendary genre.
The music is of the kind that lends itself to a live performance: the perfect combination of drums and bass needed to rock out in a dark bar.
Luckily, you can catch the EP release show at 8 p.m. tonight at The Bishop. Admission is $3.
