It's that time of year again. On Saturday, April 16 record stores across the country (and most notably for us, in Bloomington) will celebrate Record Store Day, which has garnered attention and momentum since it's inception in 2007. Conceived by Chris Brown, this day is a celebration of the unique culture surrounding over 700 independently owned record stores in the USA, and hundreds of similar stores internationally.
In order to make this day unique, there are in-store performances, and special sales and releases. Also, there are tons of free giveaways. Yes, TONS. Plus, it celebrates the importance of music and the places that sell music. Why the heck wouldn't you go?
Releases we're looking forward to the most:
Big Star, Third (Test pressing edition)
The Flaming Lips Heady Nuggs: The First 5 Warner Bros. Records from 1992-2002
The Luyas/ Twin Sister Split 7 inch
James Blake, S/T vinyl early release.
Ty Segall covers T-Rex songs with Ty Rex, a limited 12 inch.
Stores participating in Bloomington: Tracks, Landlocked Music, and TDs CDs LPs.
Why are you excited about RSD?
Hope to see you there!
Katie
