IU falls to Penn State in conference opener, 69-60

As if opening the Big Ten season wasn't daunting enough, the IU men's basketball team got in its own way Monday. In their 69-60 loss to the Penn State Nittany Lions, IU sophomore guard Jordan Hulls said the defense the Hoosiers prided themselves on throughout the season was a step slow, giving their opponents clear looks. "We just let them have open shots," he said.

Sasha Chaplin Out for Season

The Hoosiers had hoped that sophomore forward Sasha Chaplin's original toe injury this season would not keep her out long, but a new knee injury against Florida Gulf Coast has put an end to her season. Chaplin was expected to be a dominate presence for the Hoosiers this season especially if they expected to do well in Big Ten play.

Smith-Rivera decommits from Xavier

North Central (Indianapolis) guard D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera - the No. 25 overall player in the 2012 class according to Rivals.com - confirmed to the IDS that he has decommitted from Xavier. The news was first reported by Brian Snow of Scout.com. Smith-Rivera, who currently averages 30.2 points per game for the 5-0 Panthers, originally gave a verbal agreement to play for the Musketeers on Oct.

IU's late comeback attempt not enough in 78-69 loss to Colorado

Despite a late comeback attempt by IU, the Hoosiers fell to Colorado, 78-69, on Thursday night at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. Sophomore guard Jordan Hulls paced IU with 17 points in the loss, while freshman guard Victor Oladpio added 16 points and seven rebounds. The Hoosiers (9-4), once down 15 points midway through the second half, did not back down easy.

IU falls to Northern Iowa in Vegas, 67-61

Sophomore forward Derek Elston scored a career-high 19 points but the IU men's basketball team lost to Northern Iowa 67-61 on Wednesday at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The Hoosiers (9-3) had no answer for Panthers (8-3) guard Kwadzo Ahelegbe, who scored 24 points on 50 percent shooting.

Wilson hires two more defensive coaches

IU football coach Kevin Wilson finished filling out his defensive staff Wednesday when he added Mark Hagen to coach the defensive line and special teams, and Corey Raymond to coach the cornerbacks. Hagen is an IU graduate who spent the last 11 years as an assistant coach at Purdue.

IU basketball vs. Northern Iowa - How to watch

The IU men's basketball team will kick off the IBN Las Vegas Classic at 7:30 p.m. today against Northern Iowa, but the game is not televised on your normal Big Ten Network or on the ESPN family of networks. Tonight's game is broadcast on CBS College Sports, which - as I found out while staring confused at my guide - is not your local CBS station.

Ekeler excited for opportunity at IU

The irony is inescapable. Oklahoma and Nebraska, two football rivals, played each other in the Big 12 Championship game only a few weeks ago. When IU hired Oklahoma offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson as its new head coach, Wilson wasted little time letting the public know his dislike for Nebraska. Less than two weeks after that press conference, however, Wilson hired Nebraska linebackers coach Mike Ekeler as his co-defensive coordinator. So, Ekeler had to be somewhat surprised to receive a phone call from Wilson, right? "I've known coach Wilson for a long time.
