Random thoughts

I've inundated you with posts in the last few days, and I apologize for that. It's just that with the lighter publication schedule in the summer, the blog is my best tool for bringing you what's happening with the Hoosiers.

Story early for you

Below is the story I'm writing for Monday's paper about this weekend. It's a bit long, but it's all here.

A win got them in

Hey folks, The Hoosiers broke out the big bats with six runs in inning No. 1 today in East Lansing and never looked back, bashing their way to their first Big Ten Tournament appearance in five years with a 14-5 win over the host Spartans.

Crean adds preferred walk-on

Tom Crean isn't expected to use up all available scholarships for next season. The addition of Broderick Lewis, is further proof of that.

IU wins, Northwestern loses

Hey folks, Just got off the phone with Eric Arnett and Chris Hervey, two of the key players in the Hoosiers' 9-2 win over Michigan State to open the do-or-die four-game set in East Lansing.

Report: Dakich, IU reach settlement

Indiana University and Dan Dakich have cut ties with one another. On Thursday, the University and Dakich reached a financial settlement that will pay the former interim coach $185,000, the salary he was scheduled to earn next season, according to the Associated Press. IU spokesman Larry MacIntyre confirmed the deal to the AP.

Phegley nomination and an answer to Michael's question

Hey folks, First up, I need to clarify something and answer a question from my last post. Thanks to reader Michael for asking: What happens if IU wins 2 and Northwestern none? The answer is Michigan State takes the sixth spot from IU because they have one more conference win right now.

One quick release, new asst. coach

Hey folks, The Hoosiers have themselves a new assistant coach: Katie Abrahamson-Henderson. She comes to IU from Washington, and she's compiled a pretty impressive record as a head coach at Missouri State.

Report: IU agrees with NCAA findings

Hey folks....back to the reality of IU basketball. ESPN is reporting that sources say the University has agreed with NCAA findings in the Kelvin Sampson phone saga. I just received an e-mail from IU with the report to the NCAA.

Sutton's visit just 'aight?'

So I was logging off of Facebook (what do you expect?), and on my front page was a list of the most recent "status updates" among my friends (and "friends"). Right there was an update from a certain high school basketball star named Maurice Sutton, you may have heard of him. I wouldn't normally bother posting anything like this on the basketblog because, well, who does that?

Rivers to enroll at IU

Jeremiah Rivers plans to enroll at IU, a source told The Washington Times. Rivers, who recently announced his intentions of leaving the Georgetown progam, was on the IU campus for an unofficial visit Friday. In two seasons at Georgetown, Rivers never scored in double figures, but he had earned the reputation of being a "defensive stopper." Although Rivers would have to sit out for one year, the 6-foot-4 guard Rivers would bring two years of experience and leadership to a young IU squad next year.

Sutton, Walker, Rivers

6-foot-10 power foward/center Maurice Sutton is in town this weekend for the adidas May Classic. Sutton was impressed with IU, while he was rather impressive on the court playing with Indiana Elite LNO, both HoosierNation.com and Chris Korman from the H-T reported.
