IU women's basketball jumped into the Associated Press Top 25 Poll to No. 22 in Monday's weekly NCAA women's basketball rankings. It marks just the second time in program history that IU has been ranked and the first time since the Jan. 19, 1993 rankings that the Hoosiers have been ranked.
The No.22 ranking is the highest IU (14-0) has ever been ranked. In IU's lone previous ranking, the Hoosiers were No. 23. The team recieved 140 votes, an increase of 117 votes from last week's poll when IU earned 23 votes.
The Hoosiers earned the national recognition after defeating former No.22 Iowa in IU's Big Ten opener 86-84 Thursday in Assembly Hall. Iowa has since dropped out of the top 25 rankings.
IU is 4th among Big Ten teams in the poll. The Hoosiers still trail No. 14 Penn State, No. 16 Nebraska and No. 21 Purdue.
IU was regularly scheduled to play Purdue tonight in West Lafayette, but winter storm Hercules led to the postponement of the game. The Hoosiers will instead take the court next in Assembly Hall on Saturday at 4:30 against Ohio State who earned one vote in the poll.
