IU's annual Hoosier Hysteria will take place Friday, Oct. 4, this year, two weeks earlier than last season's event, held on Oct. 20.

An IU spokesman confirmed a Tom Crean tweet earlier Thursday night saying the Hoosiers' version of "Midnight Madness" at Assembly Hall will take place the same weekend as the IU Athletics Hall of Fame Induction ceremony and the IU football team's Big Ten opener against Penn State on Oct. 5.

Much of the reason this year's Hoosier Hysteria will be earlier lies in the NCAA's decision in May to allow teams to practice six weeks in advance of their first regular season game. In prior years, teams were allowed to practice four weeks ahead of their first regular season game.

Hoosier Hysteria will be a held week after teams are officially allowed to start practicing on Sept. 27.

IU has yet to announce what time that Hoosier Hysteria will start. Last year's program began at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 4 p.m.
