Wednesday marked the start of the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas for the Indiana Men's and Women's Track and Field teams. Competition in the women's heptathlon and men's decathlon began with three Hoosiers entered over the two events.

Senior Courtney Woodard is sitting in seventh place in a field of 21 competitors through four events. That's thanks largely to her competition-best shot put of 12.77m (41-10.75), an outdoor personal record for her.

In the men's decathlon, freshmen Dylan Anderson and Stephen Keller are in 16th and 19th place, respectively, through the first half of the event. Both are competing in their first career decathlon.

The highlight of their competition so far has been the high jump. Keller finished second overall with a leap of 2.02m (6-7.5) before missing three times at 2.05m (6-8.75). Anderson finished fifth in the high jump at 1.93m (6-4).

All three multi athletes resume competition Thursday morning, when they will finish their events.

Other Hoosiers in Texas wait to compete on either Friday or Saturday. Friday night will set the stage for three IU athletes to compete as graduate student Scott Houston will pole vault, junior Kyla Buckley will compete in the shot put, and freshman Sydney Clute will also pole vaulting in her first collegiate outdoor meet.

Then Saturday morning will see senior Derek Drouin take on six of the same jumpers he defeated at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Championship, including the top three finishers and four of the top six.

Senior Emma Kimoto will compete in a high jump of her own on Saturday night to round out the competition for the Hoosiers.
