For the second time this season, an Indiana University women's tennis player has been awarded the Big Ten Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week honor. Sophomore Alecia Kauss earned the recognition on Jan. 15 and on March 20, sophomore Katie Klyczek was named Athlete of the Week.
On March 15, Klyczek defeated No. 16 Hanna Mar 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 2 singles match, which was the deciding match in IU's victory against then-No. 2 Duke in Las Vegas, Nev.
It is the first time that she has earned the honor.
"Katie is very deserving of the award. She has improved tremendously this year," IU Coach Lin Loring said. "It finally came together in the Duke match when she beat the No. 16 player in the nation."
No. 38 Indiana (11-4, 0-1) will face No. 37 Penn State on Friday, March 22, at 5 p.m. at the IU Tennis Center and No. 53 Ohio State on Sunday, March 24, at 11:00 a.m.
