CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--Eriq's Zavaleta's persistence gave Indiana a 1-0 lead in the 60th minute, and marked only the seventh goal all season North Carolina Scott Goodwin surrendered. As the Hoosiers began to celebrate, Goodwin lay face down at the six-yard-box.
The Hoosiers survived eight shots in the final 12:03 to advance to their first College Cup since 2004.
It was over when: 30 seconds remained on the clock as Zavaleta possessed on the far end line, parallel to the six-yard-box. Carolina could only hope to kick it out of bounds off Zavaleta to regain possession. They were unable to do so, and Indiana won their second postseason road game in as many tries.
Game ball goes to: Zavaleta. The sophomore scored the game-winner for the second time in as many games, as the Hoosiers upset the No. 9 Tar Heels.
Stat of the game: 40. UNC had a 40-game unbeaten streak at Fetzer Field.
Stat of the game II: Two. Having not won a road game since Oct. 3 (partially due to scheduling), the Hoosiers have upset the No. 1 Irish and No. 9 Heels, respectively, in back-to-back weeks in true road environments.
Turning point: Kotlov's shot in the 68th minute. The goal gave Indiana a lead they would not relinquish.
Unsung hero: Junior Jacob Bushue blocked three UNC shots within 25 yards in the final 12:03 of play to help make Soffner's job a little easier.
