After losing to Cleveland State 69-58 Sunday at Assembly Hall, the IU women's basketball team saw many of its early season streaks come to an end.
The loss halted the team's six-game winning streak, the longest streak the team had had since the 2008-09 season when it won nine games in a row.
It had been the best start to a season for the Hoosiers since the 2006-07 season when the team opened 7-1. The Hoosiers fall one win short of the start.
It was the first loss at Assembly Hall for new IU Coach Curt Miller. The team was 4-0 in Bloomington coming into the game.
IU (6-2) gave up over 50 points for just the third time this season, and the first time since Nov. 12 at Murray State. Sunday marked the first game in which team surrendered over 50 points at home this season. The team had put together five consecutive games where it held opponents under 50. That run tied a record set back in 1973-74, but also came to an end Sunday.
Cleveland State's 49.1 percent shooting from the field was the highest field goal percentage the Hoosiers have allowed this season. It was the first time in six games that a team had shot better than 33.3 percent from the field against IU.
Senior forward Aulani Sincair had scored in double-figures in all seven games coming into Sunday's matchup. That stretch ended against the Vikings as Sinclair only scored five points on 1-8 shooting. She had also led the team in scoring in the last five games before the loss.
Sinclair had no points in the first half, and did not tally a field goal until 3:28 left to play when she hit a three from the right corner. That continues her streak of eight games with a made three-point field goal.
Her lowest total on the season coming into the game was 16 points at Murray State in the second game of the season.
The last time Sinclair managed just one field goal in a game was Feb. 2 against Iowa. She went 1-6 that day against the Hawkeyes and scored two points. Sunday's five points was her lowest total since March 1 when she scored four points against Michigan State in the Big Ten Tournament.
It was the second consecutive game in which Sinclair went the distance and played all 40 minutes.
The Hoosiers went 2-13 from 3-pt range. That ties the team's record for fewest made baskets behind the arc this year. The team shot 2-15 against Valparaiso in the season-opener.
The team was 0-5 from distance in the first half. That's the first half this season that the Hoosiers have failed to net a three-point basket.
In better news for the team, senior forward Linda Rubene set a new career high with 13 points. Along with starting junior forward Milika Taufa, the two combined for 25 points, their highest combined output of the season.
Jasmine McGhee also had her highest scoring total at Assembly Hall this season, scoring 14 points. She scored 20 points in the team's win at Murray State earlier in the year.
It was the team's best attended game with 2,125 people since Nov. 16 when the team hosted 2,182 people for the Indiana State game.
