Both of Indiana's losses this season were of the 1-0 variety. Saturday night in State College, Pa., junior midfielder Harrison Petts put the Hoosiers on the correct side of that score in the 106th minute.

The Zionsville, Ind., native scored his first goal of the season, propelling Indiana to a 1-0 win against Penn State. Petts received a pass from junior midfielder A.J. Corrado along the right end line, and took a couple touches moving to his left. From 16 yards away, his shot rolled just inside the left post to push Indiana's record to 2-0 in conference play.

PSU GK Emmanuel Martin watched the ball roll in, as his team dropped their second consecutive match in the final minute.

"I was really, really happy," he said. "We played a good game, especially in the first half. I thought we deserved it. It was good to get the win."

IU Coach Todd Yeagley was happy to see his team earn three points.

"It feels wonderful," he said. "We've given up five goals in ten games. We're playing good team defense, but we're not giving up too many high-quality chances. The ones that we've given up, (redshirt senior goalkeeper) Luis's (Soffner) been right there.

"We're right were we need to be when you evaluate your goals against and chances given up. 1-0 victories are good victories. [I'd] much rather take those than 3-2 any day."

Penn State as an opponent

Starting in 2002, every single match the Hoosiers and Nittany Lions have played was decided by a single goal. That season, IU won 1-0 in 2OT. In the Big Ten Tournament, PSU won 2-1 via PKs.

In 2003, IU won 3-2 in Bloomington and won on PKs en route to a national title.

A year later, the Hoosiers won 2-1 on the road.

Valuable Experience

"It (playing 10v11) just gives us experience playing a man down," Petts said. "We haven't had a lot of that."

Soffner said not much changed on either side of the ball.

"It's something you have to adjust to," he said. "Just move Jacob Bushue in the back.

"The whole game, we just kept saying to each other, 'You know what? A tie is not good enough We have to get a win.'"

Worth noting

Two of Petts' four career goals have come against the Nittany Lions. He attributed it to being at the right place at the right time.

"I wouldn't say there's anything special against them. "It's just kind of a coincidence."

IU's last win in overtime came on Sept. 20, 2009 against Florida International, a 2-1 double-OT win in Akron, Ohio.

The Hoosiers' most recent win overtime Big Ten matches came in 2008, each by a score of 3-2: Oct. 26 at Ohio State and Sept. 21 against Wisconsin in Bloomington.
