FROM IDS REPORTS

IU junior golfer David Mills qualified for the Nationwide Tour's United Leasing Championship yesterday by firing a seven-under 63 at the Country Club of Old Vincennes.

The seven-under performance propelled him to a second-place tie in the field of 112. With the finish, Mills became one of seven players to qualify for a spot at the United Leasing Championships, which begins Thursday at Victoria National Golf Club in Newburgh, Ind.

Approximately and hour away from his hometown of Evansville, Mills started off one-over after five holes. He then fired off six birdies over the next nine holes to get back in contention.

Mills added a crucial eagle on the par-five 16th hole and a birdie on 17 to reach seven-under for the day.

For the 2011-2012 IU men's golf season, Mills recorded five top-ten finishes and three top-five finishes. He averaged an 18-hole score of 73.23.

Former Hoosier standouts David Erdy and Chase Wright also attempted to qualify for the Championships. They competed at Quail Crossing Golf Club on Monday and posted good scores, but fell short of qualifying.

Erdy shot a seven-under 64 and Wright a five-under 66. An eight-under 66 was required to advance to a playoff for the final qualifying spots.
