Former Hoosier track and field athlete Molly Beckwith narrowly missed making the U.S. Track and Field Olympic team on Saturday, finishing just .22 seconds short of a top-three finish in the 800-meter finals at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore.

Beckwith, a 2010 IU graduate, was in second with 20 meters to go but ran out of steam and fell two spots. Only the top three finishers earned a trip to London.

She finished fourth with a time of 1:59.68.

Fellow former Hoosier Sarah Pease had better success in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Pease advanced to the finals of that event by running a career-best 9:52.43, good for seventh in her heat.

Redshirt senior De'Sean Turner failed to advance to the men's steeplechase final, placing 19th in the preliminaries with a time of 8:47.15.
