Last week, it was left fielder Chris Sujka. This week, catcher Kyle Schwarber earned the nod as Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

"We've had to put him behind the plate a little quicker than we wanted to, but he's been doing a good job, improving everyday," Head Coach Tracy Smith said on media day. "As far as a hitter, the kid is a very, very accomplished hitter."

He had a terrific weekend, highlighted by the grand slam he hit on Saturday to give IU a 7-4 lead and helped them earn their first Big Ten road win.

He hit .545 over the three-game set, with the aforementioned home run, a triple and he drove in six runs.

On the young season, the catcher leads the team in hits (with 10), runs (seven), home runs (three) and total bases (22).
