IU Coach Kevin Wilson opened up an offseason workout Tuesday night to the media. For about an hour and a half, media members watched players go through a number of drills, mostly dealing with speed, fundamentals and agility.
Wilson said the workouts have gone differently this year because so many of the players have been through these kinds of exercises before.
"The learning curve is much less," Wilson said. "Some guys have done it a full year, some guys six months, but we're still a very young, immature team."
The offseason workouts before the 2011 season -- when Wilson first arrived in Bloomington -- were more focused on learning fundamentals, but this offseason has included a bit more video study.
The team is allowed eight hours of practice time per week, which cannot include work with a football or pads. Wilson said the practices don't involve work with a football, but still increase certain skills involved in playing the game.
"You do try to do as much football-related activity as you can to escalate their football knowledge, and playing in a good football position," Wilson said.
Wilson said the new members of the coaching staff, such as Offensive Coordinator Seth Littrell and Defensive Ends Coach Jon Fabris, are meshing with the players well in the early going.
"We're still learning each other," Wilson said. "They're used to maybe their style, but it's been good. It's been really good."
