After winning the 3,000 meters in the Indiana Open Saturday, sophomore Robbie Nierman was named Big Ten Athlete of the Week on Monday.
The Fort Wayne, Ind. native's time of 8:17:89 in the 3,000 meters leads the NCAA this season. It is the first time in his IU career that he has earned the honors, but it is the second time this season that an IU athlete has garnered the award.
On Dec. 12, 2011, the Big Ten Conference named senior Kind Butler Track Athlete of the Week. It was also a first for the 55- and 300-meter specialist out of Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis.
