IU Swimming and Diving Head Coach Ray Looze has been selected to the Team USA men's coaching staff for the 2011 Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool, on December 16-17, in Atlanta, Ga.
This year's version of the fifth biennial international all-star event, will pit 44 of the best American swimmers, 22 men and 22 women, against the greatest swimmers swimmers from across Europe, in a 30-event meet (15 events per gender). The Duel in the Pool's past American participants have included gold-medal-winning Olympians Michael Phelps, Jason Lezak, Ryan Lochte, Aaron Peirsol and Dana Vollmer, and this year's competition should be no less-talented, with the 2012 London Olympics only nine months away.
Over the last eight years, the Americans have been undefeated in the meet, with their first three wins coming against Team Australia and their previous win coming against Team Europe, 185-78.
Looze will join Michigan Coach Mike Bottom and Ohio State Coach Bill Wadley as assistant coaches under Head Coach David Marsh, one of the NCAA's all-time most successful coaches. The Duel in the Pool will also be televised live on NBC, on December 17. Rosters have yet to be announced for the event.
