Taking on Penn State and Virginia in a double dual-meet at Penn State, the No. 14 IU men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed their first day of action in the pool, as competition will resume tomorrow at 11 A.M.

In the men's meet, the IU team, coming off of losses to No. 1 Michigan and No. 2 Texas two weeks ago, battled back from such adversity and won eight of the nine events conducted Friday night. Sophomore Cody Miller was a three-time winner, winning the 200-yard Individual Medley, 100-yard breaststroke and the 400-yard Medley Relay, along with junior Daniel Kanorr, sophomore James Wells and freshman Steve Schmuhl. Wells and Kanorr were also a part of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team, along with junior Jim Barbiere and freshman Matt Gerth. Finally, in the lone men's diving event of the night, junior Zac Nees took the 3-meter dive title with a score of 403.60, his second win in as many meets, and first 3-meter win of the season.

On the women's side, while the Hoosiers took two events held on Friday night, Penn State earned three victories, and No. 18 Virginia earned four. In her second meet back after a bronze medal performance at the Pan American Games, senior Allysa Vavra won her first event of the season, taking the 200 IM in 2:00.90, over a second and a half faster than her closest competition. On the 3-meter dive, the Hoosiers went 1-2-3, as sophomore Kate Hillman won her first career title, followed by senior Gabby Agostino and freshman Kathryn Connolly. Finally, on an unrelated note, senior Margaux Farrell's streak of 100-yard freestyle victories came to an end, losing to Virginia's Lauren Perdue by a .74 second margin.
