I've gotten a lot of questions regarding spring football lately so I thought I'd just give a quick update.

In short, I don't know a heck of a lot more than you do. Coach Kevin Wilson only allows the media to watch the first 25 minutes of practice twice a week, and a lot of that time consists of stretching.

I can tell you, however, that several players look in much better shape than they did at the end of last season. Wide receiver Damarlo Belcher, who turned down the NFL Draft to return for his senior season, looks a lot leaner and stronger than he did a year ago.

Quarterback Ed Wright-Baker also looks somewhat leaner, although I think he could afford to lose a few more pounds. If he is going to win the starting job, he's going to have to be quick enough to scramble around in the pocket. He's just not quite there yet.

From what I've heard from the players, Wilson's practices are much more intense than Bill Lynch's were. Players don't walk from drill to drill, they hardly ever sit out, and they are practicing in pads in the spring. Lynch didn't even have his guys in pads during the fall.

The Hoosiers are going through workouts like they've never gone through them before, and I think that's going to benefit the team in the long run. I don't know if they have the talent to make a bowl game next season, but they'll certainly have the work ethic to do so.
