For the second time this season, IU sophomore Eric Ress was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week Tuesday for his performance in a 176-124 victory over No. 18 Louisville and Virginia Tech Friday. Ress won the 100 and 200-yard backstroke, both of which were pool records.

"It's well deserved," coach Ray Looze said. "I think he's one of the better swimmers in the NCAA and hopefully people are going to get to know who he is by the end of this season. I think he's a very well-kept secret and he's a super, super swimmer."

Ress was honored to receive the award, but he is trying to stay focused for the upcoming meets against Purdue and the rest of the Big Ten competition at the Big Ten Championships Feb. 23.

"I always take something like that with a grain of salt," Ress said. "I'm really excited that I got it, but I also was aware that a bunch of other good swimmers from Ohio State, Michigan and Purdue all had good swims...I'm constantly looking at my rivals in the Big Ten and also in the NCAA making sure that I'm not getting complacent in terms of training"
