I'm here at Assembly Hall where IU (8-13, 2-7) is set to tipoff against the visiting Minnesota Golden Gophers (10-12, 2-7). Will the Hoosiers make it a sweep of the Gophers in Bloomington this year? I'll be updating as this one unfolds.
First half
12:39 IU-11 Minnesota-10 Stingy defense is creating turnover opportunities for the Hoosiers and they're taking advantage on the offensive end.
6:14 IU-20 Minnesota-23 The Gophers have been able to slow the tempo of the game and make the Hoosiers a bit uncomfortable. With their half-court sets working now, Minnesota is shooting 62 percent from the field.
Halftime IU-32 Minnesota-29
I apologize for the lack of updates in this 6-minute span, but frankly, there hasn't been a whole lot to update on. A late run by IU towards the end of the half puts them up by 3 going into halftime. But, the turnovers, mercy the turnovers. 12 for Minny and 9 for the Hoosiers don't make this game the neatest matchup. Coming off an injury, Whitney Lindsay is leading IU with 11, while Minnesota'a leading scorer is Katie Loberg with 10 points.
Second half
13:24 IU-41 Minnesota-37 The Hoosiers came out of the gates quickly, catching a rhythm and hitting baskets. Good scoring distribution of from players not named Jori Davis.
11:45 IU-41 Minnesota-40 The Gophers clawing their way back into this one. The defensive intensity that IU had in the first half is not yielding the same transition buckets that carried the team in the first half.
7:52 IU-55 Minnesota-46 Just when it seemed Minnesota was going to take the momentum and the lead in this one. However, Jori Davis had other plans as she is putting the team on her back right now.
6:00 IU-55 Minnesota-51 Costly turnovers from a frustrated Whitney Lindsay now sways things back to the Gophers who have trimmed it to a two-possession game.
3:57 IU-55 Minnesota-55 Nobody seems to want to hold a lead in this one. Jori Davis has really stepped up her game in the second half, now leading all scorers with 19 points. But whether this will be enough to give the Hoosiers the win remains a mystery.
2:06 IU-58 Minnesota-59 Simply put, this one is coming down to the wire. Stay tuned.
44.5 IU-58 Minnesota-63 As Minnesota steps to the free-throw line to shoot two, it seems this one is about in the books. the Hoosiers were not able to finish down the stretch. And a costly 5 second call on a Whitney Lindsay inbound just about seals it.
Final 65-59 Minnesota
