With the Jets' 17-16 win over the Colts Saturday night at Lucas Oil Stadium, Rex Ryan finally got his long-desired revenge on Peyton Manning. It seemed like Adam Vinitieri sealed another playoff win with a kick late in the fourth quarter, but an outstanding kickoff return to the Jets' 46 by Antonio Cromartie halted Colts' fans hopes of an almost improbable run to the AFC Divisional Game.
Jets kicker Nick Folk in turn sealed the game for the Jets with a 32-yard field goal as time expired.
That said, where do the Colts go from here? It's not hard to figure out for team President Bill Polian. The Colts' biggest problem in recent years is what sealed their fate on this night; special teams coverage. Whether it's through the draft, a coaching change or free agency, the Colts' first issue at hand is unquestionably special teams personnel.
Second, the offensive line is banged up, but some sort of depth has got to be acquired. It wasn't a major issue tonight but as the Colts begin to prepare for 2011, Bill Polian uncharacteristically must look at making a big move in free agency.
Finally, credit must be given where it is due. The Jets are a good football team, and Mark Sanchez grew up right before the 67,000-plus on hand Saturday night. It's a tall task for the 12-5 Jets, but let's not forget the 2005 Pittsburgh Steelers who won three straight playoffs games en route to a Super Bowl XL win over Seattle.
That's all from Lucas Oil Stadium; let semester two commence. See you next season.
