The news that Brent Pease is returning to Boise State is old now, but I thought I would post some of Pease's comments on the decision to this site.

When I talked to Pease on the phone, he sounded like he felt really bad about what he did to IU. He never thought the OC position would come open at Boise State, but when it did, he couldn't turn it down.

"I think the world of that place, especially after being there and meeting coach Wilson himself," Pease said.

Pease confirmed what a source told me last night in that he returned to Boise over the weekend to visit with family. He said he learned of the opportunity with the Broncos on Thursday night and then got an offer on Friday in between his flights to go home.

"I had to deal with all the what-ifs on Saturday morning and then come up with a decision," Pease said.

When asked if he had signed a contract at IU, Pease said "Yeah, I signed a lot of stuff."

He was not, however, forced to pay a penalty because IU let him out of the contract. Pease said he understood the contract to be a "year-to-dear deal" and was not a multi-year contract.

Pease said IU coach Kevin Wilson treated the situation in a professional manner and understood the circumstances.

"He understood. I don't think he was totally pleased or anything, but he understood," Pease said. "That's why he is such a smart guy."

IU Athletics Director Fred Glass had a similar reaction.

"It's too bad, but I understand and don't blame him under the unusual circumstances," Glass said in a text. "These kind of things can happen when you're dealing with such high-quality, in-demand guys"
