New IU football coach Kevin Wilson has a $2 million budget to fill out the rest of his staff, according to IU athletics director Fred Glass. That dollar figure is nearly double what the former staff was making.

With that in mind, Wilson should be able to find a solid defensive coordinator to take care of the other side of the ball. Wilson said he was going to start looking at potential candidates today.

'Being close doesn't excite me'

That was part of Wilson's answer to a question from ESPN's Adam Rittenberg. Wilson understands the Hoosiers have had many close losses in recent years, but close doesn't cut it for him.

"When you look at the scores and you look at the talent, yeah, they're not far off," Wilson told Rittenberg. "But being close is not winning. Being close doesn't excite me."

Boise State loss 'sucked'

In a sit-down interview with Wilson on Friday afternoon, I asked him about the BCS bowl game from a few years ago when Oklahoma lost to Boise State in a thriller. I told him I thought it was one of the better college football games in the last five or 10 years.

He proceeded to say "I thought it sucked" four or five times in a row. That got me to thinking: How many times did former coach Bill Lynch lead his post-game press conference with "Well, that was two really good football teams"?

I don't think we'll be hearing that from coach Wilson anytime soon.
