IU Athletics Director Fred Glass announced six new IU legends will join the IU Athletics Hall of Fame today.
Chuck Bennett (football, 1926-28), Lee Corso (football coach, 1973-82), Steve Green (men's basketball, 1973-75), Denise (Jackson) Salters (women's basketball, 1981-84), Wayne McDonald (men's golf, 1968-70), and Van Waiters (football, 1983, 85-87) bring the total number of inductees to 170.
They will be officially inducted during the annual Hall of Fame dinner OCt. 29 and recognized during the Nov. 30 football game against Northwestern.
"The strength of this class underscores the rich tradition of student-athletes at Indiana University," Glass said in a statement. "In addition, Lee Corso's induction as a great IU football coach is particularly exciting for me given he led the Hoosiers during my time as a student."
Green was former coach Bob Knight's first recruit in 1971 and was the Hoosiers' leading scorer in the 1975 undefeated season, averaging 16.6 points per game. He ranks sixth in IU history in both career field goal percentage and season field goal percentage.
Corso coached the Hoosiers to their first ever bowl victory in the 1979 Holiday Bowl, a 38-37 victory over Brigham Young. He ranks as the third winningest coach in IU history.
