Tonight, during the final of the Adidas Nations tournament in Chicago, Il, nationally ranked center Peter Jurkin of the class of 2012 announced his committment to play for the Indiana Hoosiers.
Jurkin, a Sudan native who played for Team Africa at the Adidas Nation, is ranked 37th in the nation by ESPN.com.
Jurkin came over to the United States as part of the A-HOPE organization, set up by his AAU coach Mark Adams. Jurkin plays for Indiana Elite during the summer, and goes to high school at United Faith Academy in North Carolina.
Jurkin is measured at 6'11'' and 200 lbs. He is the first commitment of the class of 2012 for the Hoosiers
Here is a short scouting report on Jurkin, from Scouts Inc.
"Peter is a long and athletic post player. He is originally from the Sudan. He has quickly made his mark on the American high school basketball scene. Jurkin is thin but very long. He runs well and covers a lot of ground with each step. He is best on the defensive end right now as he is an excellent shot blocker. He shows good touch on the offensive end and can shoot face up jumpers to 15 feet but needs to be more aggressive with his offense. He obviously needs to improve his strength and girth. He also needs to improve the strength of his hands. He is a solid rebounder with his length and bounce but needs to get stronger in order to hold his ground in the paint. Great upside on this kid."
