Freshman Kelsie Ahbe took second in the junior pole vault on day two of the USA Track and Field Championships. The Union Town, Ohio, native also qualified for the IAAF Jr. World Championships in July. Senior Jeff Coover closed out his career at IU with a seventh-place finish in the senior pole vault.Ahbe was one of only two vaulters in junior competition to clear 13 feet. She took second with a clearance of 4.05m (13-3.5). It marks the fourth time the freshman has cleared a bar higher than four meters in her career, a feat she has accomplished at three-straight meets. Ahbe was six inches better than the third-place finishers. Her clearance is better than the qualifying mark of 3.95m (12-11.5) for the 2010 IAAF World Junior Championships. The IAAF World Junior Championships will be held in Moncton, Canada on July 19-25.
Coover cleared 5.35m (17-6.5) on his third attempt to put himself in a three-way tie for seventh place. Only three vaulters exceeded the height on the day.
Andrew Poore narrowly missed out on advancing to a Sunday final in the men's 3,000m steeplechase. Poore clocked a time of 8:58.25 for 15th in the two-heat prelims, narrowly missing out on one of 14 qualifying spots. De'Sean Turner clocked a time of 9:08.22 for 20th.
