Indiana Baseball signee Joey DeNato (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) has been named a Louisville Slugger High School All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. DeNato, who was one of nine players to sign with the Hoosiers in the fall early signing period, was selected for All-America mention as a multi-position player.

The southpaw signed with the Hoosiers as a left-handed pitcher, where he put up stellar numbers for Torrey Pines. DeNato posted a 10-2 record on the year with a 1.15 ERA and 97 strikeouts in 73 innings of work. He surrendered just 20 walks total on the year. His finest performance came against Fallbrook on April 26, when he notched a 14-strikeout no-hitter. After walking the leadoff man in the game, DeNato picked him off and set down the next 20 in order to fall just short of a perfect game.

But DeNato was also stellar in the outfield for Torrey Pines, hitting .364 with nine home runs, 26 RBI and 33 runs. He was also a beast on the

basepaths, swiping 25-of-27 bases to go along with a .462 on-base percentage and a .655 slugging average. He tallied a perfect fielding percentage on the season with 26 putouts and 15 assists.

DeNato was one of the top players in the state on the season, and collected San Diego-area Player of the Year honors from SignOnSanDiego.com. The lefty was a high school teammate of current Hoosier Jerrud Sabourin at Torrey Pines.
