The IU women's basketball team survived a late surge by Michigan to claim a 62-60 victory in the waning moments of Thursday's game at Assembly Hall.

The Hoosiers (10-7, 3-3) overcame a significant drop in field goal percentage from the first half to the second and were beneficiaries at the final buzzer when the Wolverines (10-7, 2-5) missed an open layup that would have sent the contest to overtime.

Junior forward Hope Elam had arguably her best game as a Hoosier, leading the team with 24 points and a season-high 1o rebounds. Senior guard Jamie Braun added 17 points and eight rebounds, both second-highest totals for IU.

Junior guard Whitney Lindsay led the squad with 10 assists.

The Hoosiers led by as many as 11 points in the second half but allowed Michigan to hit 37.9 percent of its field goals and 36.4 of its three-point field goals as the Wolverines rallied back and took the lead.

However, Michigan got into foul trouble late and twice sent IU to the free throw line after three-point fouls, keeping the Hoosiers alive.

Up by two with just over a second remaining, IU miscued on defense and allowed the Wolverines to tie the game with an open layup, but the shot was too strong and fell to the floor, sealing the victory for the Hoosiers.
