After strong debut campaigns, three IU football players have been recognized on the Sporting News All-Big Ten Freshmen team. Joining the list are kicker Nick Freeland, center Will Matte and defensive tackle Larry Black, Jr.
Meanwhile, senior cornerback Ray Fisher was named to the All-Big Ten team.
Matte played a solid season in first year, allowing just two sacks on the year. Freeland was 14-25 on field goals and a perfect 34-34 on extra points. Black, Jr. played all 12 games clogging the middle, racking up 29 tackles, 7.5 of which for a loss, and 1.5 sacks.
Fisher had two punt returns for touchdowns this season, leading the nation with 37.4 yards per kickoff return before suffering a season-ending leg injury at Iowa. His opening kickoff return for a score against Akron was the first time in school history a Hoosier opened the game that way.
