30 players have been named to the preseason watch list for the Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year award. IU is one of two schools with two players on the list. Oklahoma's Jeremy Beal and Auston English are the other two.
Both Jammie Kirlew and Greg Middleton have been finalists for the award before. Middleton was one of eight finalists in 2007, while Kirlew was one of six finalists in 2008.
Other Big Ten defensive ends nominated are Illinois' Doug Pilcher, Ohio State's Lawrence Wilson, Michigan's Brandon Graham, and Michigan State's Trevor Anderson.
The watch list can change accordingly due to player's performance and injuries, according to Ted Hendricks official website. The 2009 winner will be announced on December 9.
