IU commit Matt Carlino wasn't thrilled with his performance in the opening game of Indiana Elite One's first day in Cincinnati. Then again, the entire team played sloppy throughout much of the Monday afternoon game.

"My shot didn't fall particularly the way I wanted it to," Carlino said, after struggling mightly from the floor. "Nobody's did."

Though the 2011 recruit didn't shoot well from the floor, he did pull down eight rebounds, which is always stellar when you play point guard. Carlino also played tough defense, and did a good job of finding his teammates.

Carlino is extremely quick and extremly athletic, so when he does find his shot again, he should be quite dangerous.

The Gilbert, Ariz. native recently made the move to Bloomington, where he has enrolled at Bloomington South. He "doesn't see any reason" why he would not be able to play next year for the Panthers, though transfer rules could keep him out.

The strong guard has enjoyed himself so far, he said, which includes open gyms with the IU team at Assembly Hall.

"It's been really fun," he said. "The guys down there are all into basketball, playing all the time so it's been really fun."

Carlino said he wants to get stronger and improve his dribbling, in particular, though he wants to improve all aspects of his game.

"Just the basic skills to get better as the level gets higher," he said."

In the night game, Carlino scored five, dished out four assists, had two steals and again had eight points.

Don't be alarmed by his low offensive numbers. This kid should be a solid player for Crean.
