IU played catch-up once again and the offense was forced to work its way back from a 5-2 fifth inning deficit.

Pitcher Matt Carr had a rough four and a-third innings on the mound. He gave up seven hits and six earned runs. Four of them came in the fifth inning where his day ended after walking home two runs and allowing another score on a sac fly.

DH Alex Dickerson and catcher tried to bring IU back within striking distance. Both had home runs in the game and drove in multiple runs. Dickerson hit a two RBI shot to right field that nearly hit the scoreboard on IU Softball Field. And Phegley hit a three RBI homer to bring the game to 6-7 in the seventh inning.

The Hoosiers would never come as close, though Matt Igel pitched two scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth innings to allow the IU batters a chance for the comeback.

Jake Dunning came in to finish for Igel after a couple of errand pitches to begin the top of the ninth. Unfortunately, Dunning would allow a two run shot to extend Miami's lead to 9-6.

Great defense followed on a bizarre double play from a Dunning pitch out to get a 1-4-2 double play helped IU get out of the jam. Dunning missed a tag on Miami's Ryan Curl and threw the ball home where Phegley recorded an out. Phegley then launched a strike to second to catch a sliding Curl and end the top of the ninth inning.

IU failed to capitalize on the opportunity and popped up on consecutive at-bats to end the game.

Top performers on the day were Phegley (2-5, 3 RBI, 2 runs), Dickerson (3-5, 2 RBI, 2 runs) and Jerrud Sabourin (2-5, 2 runs). Dunning also tallied one RBI on a 1-4 day.
