Hey folks,
That greeting seems most apropos in the context of what I'm about to tell you. A report from Furman Bisher of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution -- who's been working in this business since my parents were naught but children -- cites a source close to Bob Knight saying the retired coach has interest in the open job at the University of Georgia. The Bulldogs just fired coach Dennis Felton after six-odd mediocre years and one stunning SEC title run (last year).
I quote the quote from Bisher's piece:
"He doesn't want it to look as if he's pursuing the job. He'd like to be offered it, and if offered, he'd take it," said a mutual friend, who did not want to be named but was willing for this columnist to report Knight's interest.
Essentially, Bisher's source says Georgia has to ask Knight, and I wouldn't discount what the Furm has to say, he's not the type to deal in rumors.
I'll do some checking on this in the next couple of days, but in the meantime, what do you think? Would Georgia/the SEC be a good place for Bob Knight? He most certainly would NOT be the biggest man on campus -- I can tell you right now that title will always belong to whomever coaches the team that plays between the hedges. Sound off, and take it easy. ------------------ Sunday night: The AJC's Tim Tucker brings you a piece quizzing the Georgia players about Knight coming in. Here's what some had to say.
