Despite a good pitching performance from IU junior pitcher Matt Bashore, Ball State scored four runs in the final three innings to overtake the Hoosiers 5-4. The Hoosiers fall to 2-2 on the young season while the Cardinals move to 3-2.

Among the bright spots was Bashore, who received a no-decision after striking out six and giving up only one run in six innings. Junior outfielder Evan Crawford homered for the first time this season in the 3rd inning.

But even with the early lead, the Hoosiers could not hold on. IU sophomore pitcher Matt Carr gave up three runs after replacing Bashore in the 7th inning. Ball State centerfielder Jeremy Hazelbaker hit the game-winning home run in the 9th inning to seal the deal for the Cardinals.

The Hoosiers return to action Saturday at 2:30 CT, when they face Austin Peay (2-4).
