TIPTON, Ind. - Derek Elston scored 15 points as the IU commit led the Class 2A No. 2 Tipton Blue Devils (9-1, 3-0) to a 50-40 win over West Lafayette (5-3, 1-1) on Friday night.

Elston scored 10 points in the first quarter, but scored on a three-point play with 1:32 left in the game to put away West Lafayette.

The IU commit shot five of seven from the floor (.714), and was a perfect five of five from the free throw line. He had five rebounds in the game.

With the win, Tipton ends West Lafayette's five-game win streak.

Also yesterday:

  • Christian Watford had another stellar night, scoring 36 points and pulling in 16 rebounds in a 65-56 win for Shades Valley (Ala.)
  • Bobby Capobianco broke out of a bit of a slump to lead the Cincinnati area's No. 7 team, Loveland, over No. 10 Winton Woods, 77-61. Capobianco had 22 points, 7 rebounds, 3 asssists, 3 steals and 3 blocks.
  • Jordan Hulls had a quiet night in another win for Bloomington South. He had seven in the 74-55 win over crosstown rival Bloomington North.
