I've been receiving many emails as to why I haven't made a case to fire Bill Lynch yet.

First and foremost, I don't see eye to eye on some of his moves. 2/3 of my columns have been criticizing almost every call.

But, you guys have to put this whole situation into perspective. A new AD is coming in Jan 2nd. Fred Glass inevitably has to see how Lynch operates on his own.

Greenspan, contrary to what some believe, will not attempt to salvage himself by firing Lynch. That won't happen. I guarantee it.

Teams, no matter a powerhouse or a cupcake, have off years and this one is understandably difficult for fans to swallow after the bowl game in 2007.

I agree with most of you- Lynch is an adequate number 2 (off coordinator/man behind the scenes). He's not a number 1 (head coach). But, before you scream for Lynch's head understand the athletic department's transition. If IU gets rid of Lynch at the end of this season, there's that much more upheaval for the incoming AD.

Here's my position on Lynch - Next year is make it or break it. I don't care if his contract ends July 1, 2012. If a season like this one repeats itself, then I believe it's appropriate to start calling for a new coach and just buy him out. Remember, he is the least paid coach in the conference.

But for now, just ride this ugly season out as I am. And hope that Lynch and company learn from their mistakes.

After talking to some people within the Athletic Department, Greenspan isn't going to leave a tramp-stamp on this program by firing Lynch. That will fall in the arms of Fred Glass.

So, again to reiterate: Stop calling for Lynch's head now. If 2009 is as dreadful as 2008, then it's time to pipe up the chatter for a new coach.
