Tom Crean has certainly been a busy guy since becoming the men's basketball coach here at IU.
But this week may be the most visible and accessable he has been here on campus.
In addition to speaking tonight, (see post below) he also will be speaking at Chalk Talk tomorrow night at the Hoosier Den at 7 p.m. To round things up, the team also has their media day on campus on Wednesday, where Crean and his fellow coaching staff and team will be available to the media.
The work Crean has done with recruiting since he's came here has been well covered (Mr. Jordan Cohen hasn't let anything get past his radar.) But for Crean, this week might be all about trying to circle the wagons and excite the fans here on campus. And not just about the future, but the present.
It's easy, (and perhaps less painful) to look ahead to the future of the program. Next year it's almost certain the leading returning scorer will average more than two points a game, (unlike this year) and a year from now we'll have some idea what the team will look like before the first game.
My question to you basketbloggers is this: What can Tom Crean say to you during the next few days that will get you excited for THIS YEAR...if anything? What could be said that would get the fan base to focus on the present and not the future?
(And nothing to do with the above, but I'd like to request that this team not be referred to as 'The Baby Hoosiers.' Any team dominated by young players invariable is called the 'Baby'...etc. The 'Baby Boilers' being the most recent example. We need to come up with something else to call this years team. From the posts i've seen you are all far more creative than I, so any ideas will be welcomed.)
