Well, we've got a story in tomorrow's paper summing up most of this, but here's what we know at present.
--The field of candidates for the position of athletics director was narrowed to five some time last week, at which point chair Bill Stephan and a couple of other committee members began the process of due diligence, checking references, backgrounds, etc. into the five remaining candidates. --Rumored to be among those candidates and favored by a majority of coaches (though I can't tell you exactly how many) is Scott Dolson, the director of the Varsity Club. Dolson's candidacy has not been confirmed on the record to date. --Bob De Carolis, the athletics director at Oregon State, has at least spoken with someone about this issue, evidence provided by his recently-hired men's basketball coach Craig Robinson's comments to the Oregonian: "I only talked to Bob once during this," Robinson said. "He let me know he was going out there." Full video of Robinson's comments can be found embedded at the bottom of this post. Take a look if you can, the guy has some interesting perspective. --Speculation and indications from media sources suggested this process might end as soon as this week, though IU spokesperson Larry MacIntyre confirmed no specific timetable has been set by President Michael McRobbie to officially name a replacement. MacIntyre reiterated that McRobbie expects to have someone named before Rick Greenspan, the sitting AD, steps down on Dec. 31. --McRobbie will conduct the final interviews and make the final decision himself. The committee's work is likely essentially done, unless the due diligence process is still underway for one or more candidates.
I'll embed that video, courtesy of the Oregonian, at the bottom of this post. I also feel compelled to recommend that you check out all the work Chris Korman has done over at the Hoosier Scoop (they're linked in our blogroll). He's been on top of this from moment one, and no one I've seen has done a better job. G'night folks.
