Hey folks,
This was alluded to in an earlier comment, I apologize for not getting this up sooner -- former IU basketball and baseball player and baseball coach Ernie Andres, who also played for the Boston Red Sox, passed away Sunday at his home in Bradenton, Fla. He was 90 years old.
Here's a link to the New Albany News and Tribune's story about Andres, who coached at IU from 1948 to 1973 and won 388 games while in Bloomington. He also served as an assistant under Branch McCracken, winning a national title in 1953. Andres was, frankly, a consummate IU athlete and coach. He didn't do it all, but he sure tried.
We'll let you know if the athletics department announces some kind of tribute or memorial for Andres.
